Webinar: Opportunities for sustainable power development in the Mekong

Tuesday 5 October, 8.30 - 10.15 am ICT (Monday 4 October, 9 - 11.15 pm EDT)

This webinar will discuss how the Mekong Region can adapt to the clean energy transition and meet the rapid rise in electricity demand, without compromising environmental, social, and economic development—and while coping with the impacts of climate change and emerging diseases.

The Sustainable Infrastructure Partnership (SIP) will present two recent publications on this topic, funded by the Mekong-US Partnership (MUSP):

  •  Lower Mekong Power Developments: Drought, Renewable Disruptions, & Electricity Trade by the Stimson Center; and
  • Economic and Environmental Assessment of Lower Mekong Countries Power Development Plans, a report by Mae Fah Luang University and the University of North Carolina.

Panelists will include representatives of USAID's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), the ASEAN Smart Cities Network (ASCN), and Asia EDGE (Enhancing Development and Growth Through Energy) fellows from the National Bureau of Asian Research.
