Improved Hydrologic and Hydraulic Decision Support for the Mekong Basin: Day 2 of Training

Thursday 22 July 2021, 9 am - 12 pm, ICT

This is the second day of a three-day training event designed to strengthen the capacity of Mekong water resource professionals in utilizing water data for modeling and forecasting activities.

The United States (US) and Republic of Korea (ROK) are collaborating under the Mekong-US Partnership and its Mekong Water Data Initiative to provide technical training to the Mekong River Commission (MRC), National Mekong Committees and line agencies in the Lower Mekong countries.

The Sustainable Infrastructure Partnership (SIP), hosted by the US-based NGO Pact, is organizing the training series, together with technical partners from: the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water).

On day 2 of the training, the USACE Hydrological Engineering Center (HEC) will introduce its River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) for hydraulic modeling, and will show how water managers can use hydrologic, hydraulic, reservoir, and flood impact modeling software within HEC Real Time Simulation (HEC-RTS) for real-time water management.

The sessions will be interactive, including time for Q&A.

The training series is funded through the US Department of State, the ROK Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Mekong Institute, which is supported by the Mekong-Korea Cooperation Fund.
